My name's Eddie, I'm twenty years old and I have autism. I've been familiar with Express CIC pretty much since it started, back in 2012, and I've always been thankful for all that they do. I've been to a few of their comedy evenings, and attend a few of their groups as and when availability permits me.
The way I've always viewed autism, having it myself, it has its ups and downs. Sensory issues occasionally get to me (though my responses to these have varied over time) and I'm very passionate about my interests, of which I have many. To name some, I enjoy Brum, The Forgotten Toys, Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie and Sooty's Amazing Adventures.
Interactions with people, particularly face-to-face contact, tend to be quite a struggle for me, which is why I often avoid eye contact. So, if you ever talk to me face-to-face and I'm not looking at you, that's why. But this also goes for people I'm very close to, such as my family and friends, and they're used to it, so I hope it doesn't seem antisocial.
I also have many other interests (but you'd be reading them for at least the rest of the year) and have made many friends, also met a few celebrities, including Clive Rowe, Milton Jones and Rob Brydon. I hope this blog page has proven interesting and provided some insight into autism and how I've always come to terms with it!
